Having lived in France for a few years in a former life, I initially thought that it would be the country of destination for our new family home. By chance, we ended up here in Spain. And although France remains a nice country, Spain is a breath of fresh air. The people here are so incredibly friendly and warm-hearted. The term ‘warm bath’ is rightfully applied to them. If we were in a shop or a café where, exceptionally, you could not pay with your bank card, the response was: ‘Oh, come and bring it over soon. Even if they had never seen you before. It is what we would call an old-fashioned mentality, which still exists here and there in small villages, where everyone knows each other. That makes it a wonderful experience to be in this country.
Spanish cuisine is known te be one of the finest in the world, you can eat really well here. We are close to the sea and this is reflected in the daily supply of fresh fish. In Llorenc, two kilometres away, there are two fish shops. The big supermarkets also have a section where they sell fresh fish. In the restaurants you will find honest dishes, prepared with excellent ingredients. Vegetables, fruit, meat and poultry, it is a world of difference with what you usually find in shops in the Netherlands. Beautiful weather, delicious food and drink, friendly people, what more could you ask for?
