Last February I spent a month alone in the house. Living in Amsterdam, Casa Papiolet feels like a calming place to retreat from the busy city life. This is partly due to the varied surroundings. Within fifteen minutes you are on the beach, walking in a forest or hiking through the mountains. The nearest village, Llorenc del Penedes, has 17 pubs (and just over 2000 inhabitants). Every pub there has a great atmosphere (El Gastro is the best) and people are eager to have a chat with you. Of course, it is also no problem if you just want to have a coffee in peace.
Right from home I loved to run around the countryside or towards Llorenc. Although I enjoyed the peace and quiet of the village immensely, I sometimes felt the need to go to town. This can be done very easily! For example, there is a direct train along the coast from the village of Comaruga to Barcelona, where you end up in the middle of my favourite neighbourhood, Gracia. The historic port city of Tarragona is also 40 minutes away, and is less overcrowded than Barcelona. An absolute must for a nice stroll and good food!
